Fisher Performing Arts Center AV System
Fisher Performing Arts Center, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY
Challenge:
Located on the campus of Bard College, the concept for the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts was to provide a world-class venue for a variety of productions, from orchestral and chamber music to opera, drama, dance and lectures. The Center needed the flexibility and the technology to support both large and small performances. The Sosnoff Theater has seating capacity for 900, an 80' x 40' stage with a full fly system, and a forestage lift and acoustical shell. Theater Two, a black-box venue with flexible seating capacity accommodating up to 200, has a smaller orchestra pit, traps, and a modified fly tower. Seating in Theater Two is based on a series of movable platforms, allowing for a variety of seating and stage configurations.
Solution:
Our teams integrated a full sound system and sound reinforcement elements into the Sosnoff Theater, including: full-range main speakers above the proscenium that are tractable behind a front cloud structure; full-range fill speakers embedded in the lip of the stage and the lip of the lift; and portable short throw and box seat speakers. In addition, our teams equipped the Sosnoff Theater with front speakers onto the forestage extension and full-range speakers throughout the theater for surround sound effect.
Theater Two, a black-box theater, is designed to serve as a teaching and training facility and to accommodate student dance and drama productions. This theater features a full fly system that is slightly smaller than the Sosnoff Theater. This theater's AV systems now include a set-up similar to that of the Sosnoff, all aided by the use of a Peavey MediaMatrix processing system.
In addition, eight speakers are installed throughout the rehearsal studios. The lobby includes an extensive paging and distributed sound system with 112 speakers installed throughout the area. Regarding video, a Sanyo digital projector was installed in the projection room, located in the second balcony of Sosnoff Hall. This projector is used to display video on a retractable screen installed in the front of the hall and onto a 27'x3' retractable title screen.
