Design and Installation

Challenge:

A spin-off of the Minneapolis-based Martin/Williams Advertising, Fame is a full-service retail advertising and branding agency that has worked with the likes of Target Corp., Disney, Wrangler Jeans and The Limited. When the company moved its staff into a new 23,000 square foot building in Minneapolis, MN, our company was tasked with creating a new home for Fame that would have a definite impact on anyone entering the building. This new space, therefore, required an AV system that would make visitors sit up and take notice.

Solution:

In addition to the high impact audio systems, our company installed five 42" NEC plasma displays are artfully mounted onto chrome poles in the lobby. These displays can be reconfigured at any time, depending on the presentation. Behind the receptionist's desk hangs a screen capable of displaying a floating holographic logo, video clips, or computer data.

The main conference room, too, features sophisticated visual technology. In this space, a large Stewart Greyhawk projection screen was mounted into a gilded frame, giving it the appearance of an antique picture. A Sony video projector displays images onto this screen. The audio system in this space is comprised of Tannoy speakers powered by Crown amplifiers. Audio is routed through a Peavey MediaMatrix, and a touch-sensitive AMX control system facilitates operation.

Most notable is Fame's own store, which is referred to as a "retail lab" and designed to monitor consumer behavior. The store, which sells everything from furniture to small home products such as picture frames, is just like any other on the surface. The difference between this retailer and the average shop, however, is that Fame's own in-house experts are able to closely observe how people shop. Cameras and recording devices are stationed throughout the space, and focus groups that invited in to browse products are watched through a one-way mirror. As with the rest of the building, a high-energy audio system was implemented, allowing consumers the ultimate retail experience.
